Yesterday, Sony announced it will be releasing firmware 1.6 to Japan on the 8th of February. It has not yet been released in Europe, but the update is said to have two main features:

Firstly the Vita’s Photo app which will fully support still shots and video recordings, something that unexpectedly wasn’t released with the PS Vita (a console that has a front and rear camera)

And secondly, PS Vita’s Map app which will work more or less the same way as the map app on Android mobiles. According to the announcement, it will be powered by Google maps.

Sony also mentioned that the Playstation Network will be renamed as ‘Sony Entertainment network’ According to Sony this is to help with getting  “closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more”
